Applied Microbiology Lab

Applied Microbiology Lab.

Chaur-Tsuen Lo Professor

Our lab. focus on the research of fungal and virus diseases of solanaceae, cucurbitaceae and cruciferae crops, especially in the areas of biological control and disease resistance by Trichoderma and Bacillus. Also on development of the biofungicide commercial, and interaction among antagonists, crops and pathogens.

Principal investigator of Projects:

  1. Development of pesticides using by Trichoderma and other microbes
  2. Screening of superior Trichoderma strains and Bacillus isolates
  3. Interaction between pathogen and antagonist
  4. Interaction between Trichoderma and Crops
  5. Development of biofertilizer and biopesticides
  6. Basic researches and application of Trichoderma metabolites

Structures of the six anthraquinones isolated from T. harzianum SL-NBR1-6:

    (I) pachybasin, (II) crysophanol, (III) emodin, IV) ω-hydroxypachybasin,

    (V) 1,5-dihydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl 9,10-anthraquinone, and

    (VI) 1,7-dihydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl-9,10-anthraquinone.

  1. Application of effective microorganisms on wastes of agriculture crops

   A. Application of protease and other enzymes from Pseudomonas and Bacillus strains

   B. Application and development of nitrifying bacteria (Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter)
